Martha showed up in my inbox again this morning. If it weren’t so awesome, it would be kind of creepy. My teacher, mentor and evidently now email whisperer, Martha Beck has THE most uncanny timing. She’s like Santa Clause…she “knows what you’ve been doing” and from thousands of miles away messages me about my work helping women through rumbling and transformation.
The women I work with (actually that’s a misnomer; it’s really much more like play) know or have a strong sense that there is something bigger they are meant to doing or be part of. It doesn’t usually come in the way of a calling, although that does happen. More often than not it comes to the tune of discomfort or longing. Discomfort with something in the present or longing for something different, something more…something that could be.
After a while, if not attended to, the discomfort becomes distress as our bodies have an incredible internal gauge (Martha termed it our internal compass) when the GPS we’ve been listening to has taken us off our true life path in some way…or is SO blatantly steering us in the wrong direction, that the universe is sending up all kinds of flares, trying desperately to get our attention to stop and change course. Since we are most often just trying to hang on in the whirlwind of daily life, we see the flares but think of them as something to try to dodge or maneuver around instead of a warning sign that we need to stop and re-calibrate.
Trying to get clear on what it is we are supposed to do differently can also take us all over the place, and that’s not always comfortable or a direct route. We need support and guidance along the way.
There are signs we can watch for though, along the way, besides warning flares…signs that will reaffirm that we are actually headed the right direction; very similar to that game we played as children where you tell your friend, “you’re getting warmer”, as they tried to figure out what object you were imagining in the room. We also get confirmation we are on track when our joy buzzer goes off. Connection, real, in-person connection, with others who raise our positive energy not only increases our joy quotient, it also elevates our positive vibration in the universe which helps us align with all things true and right.
If you’ve been feeling a sense of discomfort or dis-ease, try getting out and connecting to your goddess tribe. Those that when you are with them, ignite your inner flame and light the way to your truest, best self. These may be friends yet again they may be people you don’t know and have yet to meet…those that will become your Power Posse, as my other favorite lady Pam Grout calls them. Those who will be that support and guidance, like the pit stops we need on a long car trip.
If you are going to be in Denver on February 13th, come join my power posse for dinner. We are definitely going to be getting connected to our best selves and raising our collaborative joy barometer!
And of course, here’s Martha with some techniques for finding calm and comfort in your times of rumble. She just thought you needed to know this right now.
